Principal's Message

Message from the Principal

Greetings Romulus Families;

The school year has started off very well.  Students have learned their classroom routines and I am extremely pleased with the learning that I am seeing in all of the classrooms.  Students are excited and eager to learn new things and teachers are excited and eager to give them the ability to do so.  I will address the learning later in this letter but first I want to give out a few reminders to parents in order to make the school run as smooth as possible.

We need your parent signature sheet that was included in the student handbook.  We have sent home another copy of that sheet to those who haven’t turned it in.  Please send that back in to your child’s teacher as soon as possible.  When dropping off and picking up students please do this through the main office.  Adults will not be permitted in the school through the doors by the elementary gym.  If you bring your children in after 7:55 you will not be able to walk them to their classrooms.  This is for your child’s safety.  As the weather turns cooler in October make sure you send your child in with some warmer clothing for outside time.  If you are picking your child up from school, we will not pull them out of class 5 or 10 minutes early unless they have an appointment.  Those 5 or 10 minutes add up to a lot of instruction time by the end of the school year.  Your cooperation in these matters is very much appreciated.

Hopefully your child has come home and talked about personalized learning with you.  This is an exciting new initiative that is sweeping the country by storm and the Romulus elementary school is leading the way.  I have never seen students as engaged in their learning as I have this school year.  I am impressed with how easily students move between platforms, how comfortable they are with setting goals and charting their progress, and how effective teacher instruction is for those who need it.  As a school we are committed to use flexible seating to help us achieve our personalized learning goals.  Gone are the days of desks in rows, they have been replaced with exercise balls, wobbly stools, and baskets.

Please don’t forget about some upcoming events.  The Freddy Fun Run will take place on Saturday October 7th at Kids Territory in Seneca Falls.  Come cheer on the runners.  Fire safety week will begin the week of October 10th.  There is a teacher conference day on October 27th, so no school for students, however, the PTCC Halloween Party takes place that evening.  Lastly don’t forget about our annual Halloween Parade on October 31st.  Parents are welcome to come.  I look forward to a great year.  We are all excited to see how far your children grow this school year.
